01 / MAP

Three regions, ten cities

Guanzhong

The Wei River runs east through the Guanzhong Plain, between river terraces and loess tablelands. Villages line the channels and roads; wheat, maize and orchards shape the fields.

54 county-level divisions

Northern Shaanxi

On the loess plateau, tablelands are flat and gullies deep, with sharp drops between ridges. Cave dwellings, terraced fields and reforested slopes are common.

25 county-level divisions

Southern Shaanxi

Between the Qinling and Ba Mountains, the Han River and its tributaries cut valleys and small basins. Slopes are wooded, rice grows in the valley bottoms, and mist and damp are common.

03 / METHOD

One page per county, but no invented stories.

The site first asks whether a page exists, then whether it is accurate. The full county pages have eight fixed sections; the English edition begins with essentials. What can be checked is written, what cannot is left blank.

Checkable facts

Administrative codes and parent cities, plus areas and centres measured from public boundary data. Wikipedia summaries are quoted and attributed; they are not paraphrased into hearsay.

Labelled figures

Areas, distances and extents are approximate and come from boundary data, not official statistics. Landmark and food lists are editorial selections, not site inspections.

Original illustrations

No stock photography. Three SVG illustrations per county are generated from its palette and motif, and labelled as original, non-photographic and not to scale.

Synthesized live

There are no audio files. The browser synthesizes ambient sound from county parameters with WebAudio, only after a click; the choice is remembered.

Not a reskin

A set of paper tones, layouts, motifs and sound scenes is combined with a per-county seed. The character of each page follows the data, not a random template.

We leave blanks

Population, GDP, elevation and founding dates have no reliable source here, so they are not written. Missing sections stay empty rather than being filled with folklore.
